The FORTIFIEDx work at our partner Joanneum Research has recently been featured across several Austrian media outlets, highlighting the development of a compact lab-on-a-chip platform for rapid, decentralised infectious disease testing.
Coverage in Kleine Zeitung, FutureZone and SPIRIT of Styria showcases the work of Anja Haase and her team to integrate blood sampling, processing and analysis into a small, microfluidic patch. Developed within FORTIFIEDx, the patches are designed to operate without conventional laboratory equipment or an external power supply and is being explored for the detection of HIV, syphilis, Ebola and Lassa.
The articles also highlight the innovative manufacturing approach behind the technology. By combining UV nanoimprint lithography with roll-to-roll processing, the microfluidic structures can be produced on polymer films, paving the way for scalable and cost-effective manufacturing.
Together, these media features demonstrate how FORTIFIEDx brings together microfluidics, advanced manufacturing and diagnostic technologies to support more accessible testing in settings where conventional laboratory infrastructure is limited.
